i was just thinking maybe after u have finished building the body maybe look at making some xr lights for it that could be replacable, all you would have to do if you cast this is reshape the indicators to the more rounded shape of the xf.
just a thought but as all ways brilliant job!

Not to mention new tail lights, bumpers, mirrors and a whole new interior. I'm sure later down the line somebody somewhere will turn it into a XF.
Thanks again for your support everybody. Apologies for the tardy update but my camera recently took a road trip with somebody else and I forgot to take the pics from it before it left. It's back now so I can show you last weeks work. I started working on the whole front end so I could get an idea about the finished look of it. It's going to be really tricky to give it the right angular and slightly rounded look that the XE has.
I trimmed a bit more off of the front 1/4 and had to reshape the indicator recess.
Made a nose panel and a grill for it too.
Started to make the front bumper.
The sides of the bumper are in place.
I scribed some lines onto some sheet
and stuck them on the front.
Cut out the sides of the airdam
and bent them using the scribe, bend and fill method that I used for the body sides.
Everything so far is blu-tacked in place.
I'm not happy with the look at the moment. It appears to be too square and the bumper/airdam is slightly overscale.
It's gonna be a real bitch to get the look right and I think there will be many versions coming and going before it's at a point that I'm happy with. As it's going to be the first thing that you see when you look at the finished model, It's got to be as good as I can get it.

Thanx. I'm a metal polisher. I don't have any sort of engineering or manufacturing (measure, cut and join) type of background. If anything I suck at that type of stuff. You know that old saying ; measure twice and cut once? well for me it's measure five times and cut, cut, re-measure, cut, swear, re-measure, re-cut, etc..
Ok just a quick update today. I'm still working on the front end and I am struggling to get it close enough to how I want it. While I gave myself some time to think about it I decided to go back to the rear of the car and do the bumper and tail lights.
The bumper is made up of 8 separate pieces of evergreen. Here is everything Blu-tacked in place. The gap between the body and the lights is where the trims will be fitted.
I made the tail lights ages ago. I'm not really happy with those either but i'll worry about that later. I will keep working on the front and update you all later and get your opinions on it.
See ya soon.

Re: XE Falcon S-Pack ** so anyway 8 years later- **
While I was flicking through a mag last night I saw a picture of a clay model in a car designers studio and I had a massive brain wave and decided to check my progress by trying to build the front with clay. I used the same moulding clay that I use when I'm resin casting. It's not the easiest thing to sculpt but I got the result that I was looking for.
I finally have a vision of where the front end is headed. I really needed it too as I just wasn't convinced that I was in the ballpark for a decent looking nose.
The next step will be to make it all in plastic.
CheersSS
