Re: Community Build
Thanks Dale I'll see how it looks once it's all nice and one piece again, but I'm pretty sure that it'll get a mild chop to make the proportions right. Anyone know if that fancy Z-cut method will work on this roof? Or will I have to widen/lengthen the roof to get it back on its pillars?
I went ahead and ordered one of those beds from Modelhaus, thanks Allan Sweptline it's called, I knew fleetside didn't sound right Can't wait for it to get here, so I can hack it up too

Re: Community Build
If its a mild chop you should only need to work the posts, out a bit on the top side and in a tad on the body side, should not need too much work mate.

Re: Community Build
Thanks for the paint info guys, I know what Im looking for now
Holy cow Zac! Thats insane! Looks freakin' AWESOME so far!!! Smart use of paperclips, never thought of that before Hot-damn its gunna be sweet as!
Yup, might as well go all-out aye, not gunna give too much away just yet, but doilys
This grill just wont fit the kustom-yness Im going for, its horrendous.
Making up a front pan for more kustom
And doing a little digging around for some parts
Iv got so much sheet styrene to play with, and its cheap if I do end up running out... YEAH!!!

Re: Community Build
Been filling and sanding the rear arches for a bit today and started experimenting with the front end (not mine )
Need some opinions, I put up a few pic in the Random Inspiration thread of some custom double headlight set ups and wanted to know what you guys think. Its really bare at the moment in the mockup so youll have to imagine a grill in there, i was thinking a simple billet style with a dash of 60sish-ness on it... Yeah I dunno just playing around with ideas so this van doesnt look like a background vehicle in an American rural deep south film or something. Thoughts?

Re: Community Build
The trick will be filling those lower corners and smoothing them so it's not obvious anything has been filled.
Mid to late 70's it was all about the latest high tech rectangular sealed beam units - 3 stacked vertically on each side would do the trick.
Here's my (currently) off-white engine.
And here's the start of the RHD conversion.

Re: Community Build
Thanks KC Still lots of work to do yet, plus I'm pretty convinced on the chop (mwahaha) What do you fellas reckon? Too much? I might need to take some out of the bottom too, under the swage line? Maybe it's right without the chop?
Here's how it is-
With a chop-
With a chop and a second section-
Your van is coming along awesomely KC, loving the mods so far I've never really been a big fan of angled twin headlight setups, but I must admit that looks pretty kool
And doilies hey, so those things do have a use after all
Good to see some non-procrastination from you Zen I'm doing the same thing with my dash

Re: Community Build
Mild chop i reckon mate, second section will take too much out of the profile, it will end up looking too skinny so to speak. And slowly, i think if you found a set of twin headlights, i would be alot easier to do, and things would match. Just my
Both you guys are having a red hot crack, good to see, keep going men!!

Re: Community Build
Thanks for the input Dale, and looking at the pics again, I agree. The double sectioned one looks a little weird lol. I'll just go with a chop i reckon
Not much of an update, but while I'm here and all
Started on a new grill, since I didn't appreciate the stock one all that much. Not that it would fit anymore anyway Still a bit to go-
Also getting the dash swapped over to the proper side Again, a fair bit of work left to do-
Thanks for following along fellas

Re: Community Build
Spooky.
Look at those 2 dashes.
I guess the Dodge trucks and SUVs (not that they were called that then) shared a dash in 1978/9.
Yours looks a lot better than mine though.

Re: Community Build
C'mon fellas, where are all the updates? Procrastinating again?
I've just started another course on top of uni, so I'm slightly busy. I still managed my first injury of the build, a wayward blade found its way into my thumb. Again. Not as bad as last time though, nothing a bit of superglue couldn't fix
I've also managed to get the grille surround into a workable form, now I just need to dream up a half decent centre. I'm being influenced by Valiant and Roadrunner grilles, trying to make it look 'right' is my challenge.
Would anyone out there be willing to alclad this for me when done, for money or trade? I can get it all nice and smooth and do the prep work, then I just need someone to lay down the black and shiny-ness.

Thanks GK No worries mate, you're right it's a bit of a drive to your place
'67 Charger hey? Hmmmm.........
I was thinking a phantom grille would look cool, but I couldn't picture it looking right. Hadn't thought of the good ol' Charger though, 66-68 grille looks pretty good in my mind's eye.
Thanks for the suggestion

Re: Community Build
I've painted my engine block Chrysler engine blue & slapped a load of filler over the dash.
Not really pic worthy though.

Re: Community Build
No worries fellas, updates as they come hey, that's the way it goes
Thanks KC Hey a suggestion [insert cool suggestion jingle tune], drop into Spotlight and grab a bag of appropriately-sized googly eyes, I got a bag of 15 for 99c the other day. You can cut the backs off them, sand the cut level, and hey presto you've got a perfect lens. Then you just need a housing of some sort....
Thanks for the offers (here and via PM) to do the Alcladding for me fellas, I appreciate them all. Kranze got in first, so he has been awarded the task Thanks mate, can wait to see the grille all nice and shiney Once I finish it of course
Keep the non-procrastination up fellas, can't wait to see more

Re: Community Build
Slowly - The AMT '53 F100 (not the street machine with the flip front - the other one) has a couple of custom quad lamp set ups.
Today I painted my gearbox silver, sanded the filler on the dash, put more filler on the dash, started building a floor, filled the plethora of sink marks in the chassis and started rebuilding the axles as they looked just too spindly.

Re: Community Build
OK. Took some pics.
Floor is 1mm styrene sheet which will give it a 1" body lift plus another 2" when I remount the axles
And my beefed up axles
Which still need filling
