Re: QMHE
I would like to thank all for their huge effort getting this thing together, bit of a logistical nightmare but we did it and we got so much positive feedback it was unreal. Unfortunately we got screwed again for best display, we were not eligible as we were not affiliated with the QMHE, even though we tried to get affiliated. We had a lot of people ask why they couldn't vote for us as we clearly had the best display, some even added to the list. Was pretty disappointing.
On a brighter note we have been invited to display it at the Australian Street Rod Nationals next Easter on the Gold Coast, thanks Chris.
We also had Gasser Gav and his photographer come for a look, they took heaps of pics and spent about half an hour with us, so watch out for future issues of either Cruzin or Gasoline, not sure which one it will be in.
And most of all, thanks to all the guys for a great weekend, was awesome to catch up with everyone again, I had a blast.
Cheers
Kirk

Re: QMHE
Well, another one come and gone...
Excellent display and definitely a winner if the powers that be had allowed it to be part of the judging. The ineligibility issue sucked the big one (I was given the impression at one of the steering committee meetings that we were gonna be offered QMHE membership!). Still, the positive vibes given by everyone who saw it was great and the time and effort put in by all was well worth it. Thanks guys.
It was great to see you guys and put names to faces (though my memory's shot and I'll probably have to figure it all out again at Rocky- I've been told I'm going so it looks like I have no choice..lol...).
The scrutineering bordered on the absurd (a mates Rommel's Rod was put in scifi and a Fire Iron and Groovy Grader were put in trucks!! - and that's just the car stuff- fuckups were everywhere!!) and I really hope they get their act together next year....
Chris.

Re: QMHE
Following up Kirks post, A huge cheer for all involved on this project, from the concept and basic planning, to the effort put forward by all, The biggest thrill for me this weekend came from laughs shared on Saturday morning when the boards were re-aligned and everything put in place. What do I take from this show more awesome memories and another reason to enjoy this hobby, the social lifes better then building lol.
Thank you all to the efforts put forward and thank you everyone for the comments and support on this project you all made it happen.

Chris.
I seriously doubt that that will ever happen, in all the years it's been going, it's never happened yet.
The judges there seem to have a fixation with anything to do with death. They seem to go by the motto of " if it don't shoot, then it's total $hit ".
Did you notice how all the top prize models were done by just a very select/chosen few, who just happen to be the hierarchy of these war-monger clubs, happens every year, ----- I'll let you be the judge if it's rigged or not.
Won't ever darken the doorway, or part with any 'hard earned cash', ever again.
Real slow learner actually, been bitten about 5 times, always went back though, thinking they played fair, it eventually sunk into my thick skull, that they ONLY play by 'their un-written' rules, and your just cannon fodder, so, never again.

Re: QMHE
Great display guys, super effort! Awesome to see everyone get together and make this happen.
Seems to be a common issue with some of the bigger judged shows, that's why as Fred mentioned elsewhere the NNL style makes for less stress. I go for the social side of things and to see mates and check out the plastic, if I win something woohoo if not o well but I understand the feelings of getting ripped off with judging I think we've all experienced it.
Radish are you Graham Green?

I agree with you Rob, I go for the social side of it too, if I win something great, if not, thems the breaks. Do I want to win, hell yeah but I don't get bent out of shape if I don't IF it's judged fairly like NNL. It was just blatantly obvious that no matter what we did, it would not have been enough to be eligible to win the display award, if they played fair and we got beaten by a better display fine but this was not the case, this is not sour grapes it's frustration at putting a bloody big effort in for really nothing. Maybe we need to put a few tanks and planes on it. I am about to email them with my thoughts and inform them of the free publicity that they will be getting from Cruzin or Gasoline mag, something I'm sure they don't know about, see what they have to say about that.

Re: QMHE
It's a shame really, because for us its a great
chance to catch up with friends.
I didn't enter anything to be judged this year,
only for display.
It's even getting hard for me to do that.
So much red tape takes the fun out of it.
I think if I go back it will be just for a look and a catch up!
Here's a couple more pics from the display.
and great work to all involved, looked absolute magic!

Re: QMHE
I may be the Devils Advocate here but if there is no-one in the organising comittee who is a car modeller then how can you expect them to get it right from our point of view?
Maybe if help was offered in the organising & judging of the car classes they would let you guys up there take a part in running it?
The drag strip display would have won hands down because while airheads would only vote for planes & tankers would only vote for armour most kids would vote for the cars.
Good pics Shoey, but I want more...

Re: QMHE
What a fantastic effort by all those involved, and yes it is a shame that we couldn't recieve votes for best display. But I wouldn't call it a wasted effort either. There was a alot of talk and intrest in the display from alot of military, aircraft etc modellers and clubs. I believe it has started to make them realize that the abiltity/talent and tecniques for different finishes, along with the scratchbuilding on both the vehicles and buildings does'nt only apply to their side of the hobby.
I have for the last decade have been volunteering as a judge (along with members of the brisbane model truck and car club)
and will continue to do so at this contest to make other modellers reconize the high standards and abilities of modellers in the civil vehicle catagories. In my opinion over the last couple of years this is starting to happen(this year especially). The difficulty is getting enough competent people to volunteer to help with judging on saturday night.
But lets not let the narrow minded overshadow the great effort and abiltities of all the people from this forum who helped build and display such a great club/forum display, which would arguably be the best I've seen in my time attending this show.
Regards Graham.

Yes fellas, what a great display. It looked fantastic. It's a pity about the BS.
A great weekend down in Brissy and it was good seeing all the modellers face to face, on this forum & others, that I only ever see at model shows. Done all my cash, and come home knackered. A great weekend!
